Introducing Grid Rewards

Emaldo's unique grid-balancing programme pays system owners for letting their battery support the electricity grid — money back, every month, from hardware you already own.

How it works

From a grid that needs balancing, to money in your account.

Four steps turn your battery's spare capacity into a monthly payout — Emaldo handles every part of it for you.

01

The grid needs constant
balancing. When there's a
sudden spike in fast-acting
resources to keep everything
stable.

02

Rather than building
expensive power plants to
sit idle for emergencies, they
pay for flexible assets — like
a battery — to step in when
 needed.

03

Emaldo registers battery systems with the grid operator and bids their available capacity into the ancillary services market.

04

Grid operators pay to have that capacity on standby and pay again if they use it. We share that revenue as Grid Rewards.

The questions home owners ask most often before joining the programme.

Grid Rewards is Emaldo's programme that pays you for letting your battery support the electricity grid. a. Here's how it works: The grid needs constant balancing. When there's a sudden spike in electricity demand or a surge of renewable energy, grid operators need fast-acting resources to keep everything stable. Rather than building expensive power plants to sit idle for emergencies, they pay for flexible assets — like your battery — to step in when needed. b. Your battery helps out. Emaldo registers your battery with the grid operator and bids your battery's available capacity into the ancillary services market. When the grid needs it, your battery either releases stored energy back into the grid, or holds back from charging, to help keep things balanced. These activations typically only last around 15–20 minutes. c. You get paid. Grid operators pay for having your capacity on standby, and pay again if they actually use it. We share that revenue with you as Grid Rewards. d. Most of the time your battery will simply be on standby, ready to respond if called upon. You don't need to do anything — it all happens automatically in the background.
a. Yes, you can sign up to Grid Rewards at any time — there's no deadline for joining. To sign up: b. Log into your Emaldo app c. Make sure your system is in AI Mode (this is required for Grid Rewards) d. Navigate to the Grid Rewards page via the widget on the home screen e. Choose the Flexible Grid Rewards Plan f. The app will guide you through the rest of the process g. One thing to know about timing: The 3-month activation period starts from the date you sign up to Grid Rewards  in the app — not from when your system was installed. So if your system has  been installed for a while but you haven't signed up yet, the clock only starts  when you complete your sign-up.  h. This means it's worth signing up sooner rather than later to get your 3-month enrolment period underway and start earning as soon as possible. During those first 3 months, you'll see a "Pending" status in your app while  your battery is being enrolled with the grid operator. After that activation  period is complete, you'll start earning Grid Rewards.
Your earnings move with the market. Because ancillary service prices change constantly based on what the grid needs, your monthly earnings will go up and down. In months where the grid needs more support, you could earn more. In quieter months, earnings may be lower. There's no minimum number of batteries required to join this plan.
a. It depends on which country you're in. b. In Sweden — yes, it matters a lot. Your electricity supplier affects how much you can earn because suppliers  work with different Balance Responsible Parties (BRPs), and BRPs determine  which grid services Emaldo can access on your behalf. c. Premium suppliers give you the highest earning potential and access to the  widest range of grid services. If you're with a non-Premium supplier, switching to a Premium one could meaningfully increase  your earnings. d. You can see which suppliers are Premium in your region (SE1–SE4) in the Emaldo app or at emaldo.com/pages/grid-rewards-calculator — they're marked with a Premium banner. e. In Denmark, Finland, Czech Republic, and the Netherlands — no, it doesn't matter today. Your choice of electricity supplier doesn't affect your Grid Rewards earnings in these countries. You'll earn the same regardless of who supplies your  electricity. f. That said, we do expect this to change in the future. If and when supplier  choice starts to matter in your country, we'll let you know well in advance.
